THOUGHTS FROM THE TWILIGHT ZONE
Category: Life

"The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosives

and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes,

prejudices to befound only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices

can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for

a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own; for the children, and the children

yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to

The Twilight Zone."
Rod Serling, closing narration "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street"

Hey Mary,
I've been thinking a lot lately about prejudice. About scapegoats. And how people justify themselves. Thanks for the quote.

how's the book?
I took a class in college on the literature of South Africa. There's a book called "Robben Island" that has stories of the men Mandela was confined with. Do you know if he's published anything in his own words?

There are quite a few titles penned by Mandela himself. I found these through the San Diego County Library:
In his own words / Nelson Mandela ; edited by Kader Asmal, David Chidester, Wilmot James.
Mandela : an illustrated autobiography
The struggle is my life : his speeches and writings brought together with historical documents and accounts of Mandela in prison by fellow-prisoners / Nelson Mandela.

Happy reading and thanks for the comment!
P.S. Treeshaker is a terrifc intro to Mandela. It's written for a young audience which makes it concise while informative. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in getting an overall view of the man and his world.
